The Wonderment of Life
Neil Diamond sings “Done Too Soon,” a song about life. He lists several people–good and bad, ethical and criminal, some from the past century and some who lived much longer ago. Some who mostly gave and some who mostly took. Some died young and some were very old.
But they all have one thing in common. “They looked up in wonder at the same moon and wept when it was all done for being done too soon.”
How easy it is for me to connect with that lyric. Often I think about the wonders of the universe and how little I understand about it. For example, how briefly we live, how quickly our time seems to go, and surely it will be done too soon.
The Thankfulness for Our Opportunity
How miraculous life is and how much we have to be thankful for, regardless our status. There will always be people with more and some with less. Our opportunity is to be the best we can be and enjoy our journey.
Neil also says on his Hot August Night album– recorded in 1972 at the Greek Theater– that he promised to do things that night that his audience would not forget for awhile.
Leaving a Legacy
What a beautiful thought! I have that same wish. I want to do things in my professional and personal life that people will not forget for awhile.
Who does not want to leave a legacy? Who does not want to be significant for at least 1, 2, or 3 people? Or a thousand? Or maybe millions? It likely will not happen by accident. More likely to occur on purpose when you have a purpose.
What is Your Purpose?
Some people call it your “WHY.” Another example of something that may turn out to be simple in words, but not necessarily easy to create. I suggest starting with “The Power of 3.” Three people who matter most, three valuables you treasure, three causes or activities you love to do, or other threes. Somewhere in that thinking you will discover things that make you want to plan, protect and preserve. You will have created more of a purpose in your life.
This blog is about being thankful, being ambitious, being focused and doing what is your will. YOU CAN DO IT!
And maybe then you will feel less like it has all been done too soon.
